No doubt we’ve all heard, “It takes a village to raise a child,” but did you know it also takes a village to carry-out a ministry? In the past two weeks, we’ve been repeatedly struck by the people who have given of their time, talents, and funds to allow Mile by Mile to go forward.
We’ve said many times this year that we have a much deeper understanding of living by faith than three years ago when Mile by Mile came to be. That statement, likely referred more to the gap we felt in me (Kerrie) leaving my full-time RN role; God has faithfully met our needs. In these past two weeks, we've learned so much more about the deeper blessing that comes from living by faith. He has been showing off and we just couldn’t go without bragging on and thanking Him for all he has done. Just in the past two weeks, He’s shown himself through:
A Pastor unexpectedly asking Todd to, “Come cover my church and get a love offering while I'm at camp.”
Our home church hosting a surprise luncheon including a visit by Todd’s mom to honor the work we’ve been allowed to do. (If you know Todd’s mom, the fact she kept it a secret is a miracle in itself)!
A couple at our church giving money for Bibles which we get to give out this trip.
Several residents and staff at the nursing home (where I work and Todd volunteers on our brief stents in Michigan) who said they pray for our ministry and will pray for my surgery recovery later this month. A resident saying they can see your heart in the care you provide truly fills your bucket.
Our son letting us take up residence in his driveway and remaining patient every time we tripped his breaker with our microwave… yes it happened more than once! Saving campground fees lets the money stretch so much farther.
A surprise visit from Todd’s cousin who was so excited to hear Todd preach that he came directly from the airport before seeing his own mom.
A man from our church fixing our RV step which suddenly didn't work when we tried to pull out today. (Satan ALWAYS throws out last minute snafus to waylay our travel and ALWAYS fails. Jn 16:33 will ALWAYS be true so you should just quit now, Satan!)
A neighbor we met a few days ago bringing us potatoes this morning because she was, "Blessed with 50# this morning," and wanted to be sure we had groceries.
A teen hugging me during yesterday’s teen afterglow saying, “Thank you for all the hard work you put in for us.”
And last, but most definitely, not least, a gentleman in our church writing a check to our ministry…we know his gift was truly sacrificial and he will be blessed like the mite-giving widow woman. We cannot be more humbled by his sacrifice.
There are so many more things we can thank him for, but Wix won't support that much data! Long story short, if you ever wonder if your investments of kind words, time, and talents make a difference, please, know they do. Many times, this week, my eyes have cried happy tears because of everyone who has allowed God to use them to bless us
